Here are a few tips to help you enjoy your summer getaway
to its fullest:
- Provide details to your agent regarding the specific property that
you would like to rent during your vacation. If you wish to rent a beach
side property on your vacation, specify what you can reasonably define
as being beach side. Define what beach side means to you in distance
or walking time.
- If you are buying from a licensed broker, you can check the status
of his or her license online and inquire about any official complaints
that have been made against individual brokers.
- If possible, contact individuals who have previously rented the property
that you are interested in renting for your vacation and ask them for
their opinions and if the property met their expectations.
- Research average rental rates for properties that are similar to what
you are interested in renting for your vacation.
- Be sure to make your rental requirements known to your agent in addition
to your cost obligations. Do not neglect to carefully review your written
rental contract to avoid agreeing to terms that you see as being unreasonable
or unacceptable.
- It is not necessary to rent through a licensed broker or agent. Any
complaints that you might have regarding an unlicensed individual can
be made through the local Chamber of Commerce or small claims court.
- If you believe that a broker or agent has violated any of the Real
Estate Board’s rules and regulations while selling rental property
to you, you may file a complaint with the Real Estate Board. Upon arrival
to your rental property, if you find problems, make detailed documentations
immediately and, if possible, take pictures so that you have solid evidence
other than your word. If something breaks or gets damaged, it is important
that you report it to the property manager as soon as possible.
- After you are finally able to secure the rental of your dreams, don’t
forget to relax and enjoy your vacation.
